South Dell

(Part of Galson Estate now owned and run by the people who live here)

South Dell is a village in Ness in the northern part of the Isle of Lewis.

Where's South Dell ? click on this link http://www.fallingrain.com/world/UK/0/South_Dell.html but do come back to learn more about us, why we are here and what we do. (just click the back button on your browser)

It is a very traditional village with crofts and large gardens around most houses. South Dell is where we grow our fruit and vegetables. We claim to be the most North westerly vineyard in Europe with 20 Black Hamburgh vines producing sweet desert grapes. (see one of our other web sites www.the-poly-croft.co.uk just click on the address, if you type it in don't forget the hyphens)

Murray's Garage is near the main bus stop and fire station . Murray is very helpful, works long hours and can repair all sorts of cars to a high standard.

The Ness fire engine is based in a new building in the village where the volunteer fire-fighters train on a weekly bases and are highly skilled at rescuing people from road traffic accidents as well as the usual fire fighting skills.

Only the Presbyterian church is represented with two small 'meeting houses' close to Murray's garage and the main 'bus stop in the village. In his book 'An Eaglais Mhor' Angus Smith states that the Free church meeting house used to be part of the old Ness Free church before the Cross free church was built.

A prayer meeting is held every Saturday evening at 8 pm in Gaelic at the Church of Scotland Meeting House.

We are both Christians having asked the Lord Jesus Christ to be our Saviour many years ago. Therefore we will go to be with Him in heaven when we die (Revelation chapter 3 verse 20). We know God in a living personal way and know His presence in our lives as He leads and Guides us. In serving this living Lord we know we will meet much opposition, we see this every day (Jesus warns us, see John chapter 15 verses 18 & 19), BUT we know and see the power of the risen Lord Jesus Christ because this opposition cannot deter us from the work He has asked us to do and we willingly do.

We worship the Lord God through the risen and ascended Lord Jesus Christ. The Island Presbyterian churches are very Gaelic and suit the Gaelic psyche. When we, individually, put our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus to forgive us for our sins He gives us his Holy Spirit who brings great joy and freedom in our lives (see John chapter 14 verse 25). We use this freedom to worship and praise Him with great joy. We have written more on the page "Christian answers" and on one of our other web sites www.christforscotland.org.uk
